Innovation center “Skolkovo” –
constructing in Moscow, modern scientific and technological innovation
complex for the development and commercialize of new technologies, and
the first post-Soviet era Russian science city, constructing “from
scratch”.

The complex will provide special economic conditions
for companies, working in priority sectors of the modernization of
Russian economy: telecommunications and space, biomedical technology,
energy, information technology, and nuclear technology.

The
complex was originally located on the territory of city settlement
Novoivanovskoe, near the village of Skolkovo, in the eastern part of the
Odintsovo district, Moscow region, to the west of Moscow on Skolkovskoe
highway. The territory of innovation center “Skolkovo” became a part of
Moscow.

The project foresees that on the area of about 400
hectares will live about 21 000 people, another 21,000 will come every
day to Innovation Center to work. The first building “The hypercube” is
ready. Objects of the first stage of “innovation city” are scheduled to
be commissioned by 2014. Currently, the future of the project is
uncertain.

As part of the “Skolkovo” There are five clusters
corresponding to the five directions of development of innovative
technologies: biomedical technology cluster, the cluster of energy
efficient technologies, the cluster of information and computer
technology, space technology cluster and the cluster of nuclear
technology.

As part of a cluster of biomedical technologies, work is underway to
create drugs for the prevention and treatment of serious diseases,
including cancer and neurological diseases. The largest cluster of
Skolkovo is a cluster of information and computer technologies. Cluster
members are working to develop a new generation of multimedia search
engines, effective information security systems, actively implementing
innovative IT-solutions in education, health.

Small, but no less
important cluster of space technologies and telecommunications deals
space projects and telecommunication technologies.

Developments
in the field of energy technologies are one of the priorities of
Skolkovo. A cluster of energy efficient solutions deals with it.
Reducing energy consumption of industrial facilities housing and
municipal infrastructure – one of the main tasks within the cluster.

The members of the cluster of nuclear technology support innovation in
